Reading comprehension — claim, evidence, qualifier
Tag every sentence by its role before you look at the options.
Every argumentative passage is built from three kinds of sentences:
- Claim — what the author wants you to believe.
- Evidence — studies, examples and data offered in support.
- Qualifier — "none of this means…", "admittedly…". These narrow the claim.
Main-idea answers restate the claim as narrowed by the qualifiers. Typical wrong answers:
- Extreme — goes further than the qualifier allows ("should be banned").
- Detail — true but only part of the evidence.
- Distortion — reverses a comparison found in the evidence.
In guided mode, the highlights label the claim, evidence and qualifier spans in each passage so you learn to spot them quickly.
