JEE Advanced — handling a changing pattern
The pattern changes every year, so the first 5 minutes go to reading the marking scheme.
JEE Advanced (two 3-hour papers) changes its question types and marking every year. The single most valuable habit is this:
- Spend the first 3–5 minutes reading every section's marking scheme. Note which sections have negative marking and which give partial credit.
- Prioritise sections with no negative marking and integer or numerical answers. Attempt everything there.
- For multi-correct sections, follow the partial-marking rule (see Multi-correct questions).
- Expect questions that combine 2–3 concepts. Write down the principles involved before calculating. Guided-mode walkthroughs always start with an identify step for this reason.
